How our Hybrid Training works:

Comprehensive online training is accessed for a period of six months. This training is self-paced, module-based with many practice questions. Quizzes at the end of each module measure the students understanding of each topic. All participants will receive continuous email support from our ICD-10 experts to guide them through the training. ICD-10 coding manuals, ICD-10 Anatomy & Physiology Handbook included.

Online pre-training assessment to assess current level of understanding on ICD-10.

Once the participants complete the online training, we will conduct onsite training for two days. Onsite training covers all aspects of ICD-10 coding.

Course includes hands on practice with coding tools, exercises, practice with medical records, and other relevant practices.

Access to comprehensive coding tool ICD10MadeEasy. This tool translates ICD-9 codes to ICD-10, reverse lookup, reimbursement mapping, ICD-10 root operation, rationale, exclude/include notes for each ICD-10 code. This is a wonderful tool to help participants understand the ICD-10 codes.

All the participants will have access to online training resources through Dec 31, 2013, and they will receive continuous education through our series of webinars, knowledge bank, e-newsletters and articles.

The total training time including online and onsite training will be around 100 hours.

At the end of onsite training, we will conduct an onsite assessment of the participants.

Hybrid Training: Can it work for ICD-10 training?

Pronounce words "online training" and people around you hear "distance education." Or used to ear, to be precise, and, in many cases, turn you off because distance training used to be thought of as something second-rate. Something people do when they cannot afford the real thing.

Judging by comments we hear from our customers and the picture we see in the field, the situation is turning. Stricter financial considerations collide with wider corporate need for training. Wider acceptance of distance and hybrid/blended training is becoming increasingly popular in our world. The vast majority of training today happens in a traditional way—in the classroom. However, our forward-looking indicator—interest as expressed by our clients' pilot projects—certainly indicates that many of them are seriously considering hybrid training courses to their ICD-10 implementation projects. Before opting for these hybrid programs, one should consider the opportunities and challenges that come with the package.

Benefits of Hybrid Training:

Surprisingly, online training presents new opportunities not available during onsite sessions. Unlike a traditional classroom setting where students spend most of the time listening to the instructor, well-rounded online training or hybrid courses include a variety of presentations including PDF and Microsoft Office documents, links to relevant Web sites, slide shows, interactive manuals, quizzes, links to online forms and an option to e-mail the instructor with questions. The students' ability to set their own pace of study, return to any section of the training that was not clear, check the progress with quizzes before moving forward, and learn from a vast variety of resources greatly enhances their learning experience and command of materials.

The lack of the face-to-face contact is generally well compensated for by e-mail and other support systems. In a hybrid course setting, trainees come to the onsite sessions having already learned the basic material. Thus, class time can be used to explore more complex facets of the topic at hand, answer individual questions, review a bigger picture, and apply this new knowledge to solving specific problems trainees pose. Oftentimes educators start with a certain apprehension toward online learning. Taken without precaution, online training does have potential to cannibalize existing business.
